Frequently asked questions about Mersea Tide Watch.
How does Mersea Tide Watch know when the Strood is flooded?
We use tide prediction data specific to West Mersea to calculate when the causeway is likely to be impassable. The Strood typically floods at tide heights above 4.9 metres.
Is the tide data always accurate?
Tide predictions are generally reliable, but actual conditions can vary due to weather, wind, and atmospheric pressure. Always use your own judgement and check the webcam link in the app when in doubt.
How often is the data updated?
The app refreshes tide data every 5 minutes and updates the display in real-time as conditions change.
What do the different status colours mean?
Blue (Safe): The Strood should be passable.
Amber (Caution): Conditions may be marginal — check carefully.
Red (Danger): The Strood is likely flooded — do not attempt to cross.
Amber (Caution): Conditions may be marginal — check carefully.
Red (Danger): The Strood is likely flooded — do not attempt to cross.
The app shows Safe but the road is flooded!
Weather conditions like strong winds can cause water levels to be higher than predicted. If the road looks unsafe, don't cross — no app can replace your own eyes and judgement.
